Pearly-Thinaah secure semi-final spot at China Open

The world No 3 pair defeated Japan’s Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto in straight games.

National women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah cruised into the semi-finals of the China Open after defeating Japan’s Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto in straight games this evening.

The world No 3 pair were in total control throughout the match, winning 21-16, 21-12 in just 38 minutes at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou.

Pearly-Thinaah, who were runners-up in the Japan Open last week, will meet China’s world No 8 pair Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian in the semi-final tomorrow.

It was their fourth win over Fukushima-Matsumoto in five encounters.

Pearly-Thinaah are eyeing their second title of the year after winning the Thailand Open in May. They have reached four World Tour finals so far this season.

The China Open offers a total prize pool of US$2 million (RM8.4 million). The winners in the doubles events will receive US$148,000 (RM624,000), while the runners-up get US$70,000 (RM295,146).

The losing semi-finalists are guaranteed US$28,000 (RM118,000).
