Yemen’s Houthis threaten to hit US ships if Trump attacks Iran

The Iran-backed militia has paused Red Sea attacks since agreeing to a ceasefire with Washington last month.

SANAA:
Yemen’s Houthis said they will target US vessels and battleships in the Red Sea if the Trump administration gets involved to support the Israeli attack on Iran, according to a statement published on a Houthi spokesperson’s official Telegram account.

The Iran-backed militia had halted such attacks since a ceasefire deal was reached with Washington last month, following a heavy bombing campaign by the US, but it continues to target Israel and its ships in the vital waterway.

The Houthis began attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea after Israel launched a campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, disrupting global shipping routes. Those attacks have largely dried up since late 2024 as shippers routed vessels in other directions.

The Houthis launched missiles in a coordinated attack with Iran last week as the two exchanged strikes, but the ceasefire with the US has held so far.
