PETALING JAYA:
Reunited mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei showed they are still a force to be reckoned with, beating Indian rivals Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto in the opening round of the Indonesia Open this morning.

The Malaysian pair, who are still ranked world No 4 despite breaking up their partnership for several tournaments, took 59 minutes to overcome the Indian pair who are ranked No 17 to win 21-11, 16-21, 21-14.

During their brief separation, they played with different partners at the Malaysia Masters and the Thailand Open last month but were eliminated in the early rounds.

They face up-and-coming Danish pair Mats Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen in the second round tomorrow. Although the Danes are ranked No 27 in the world, their recent performance shows they will not be pushovers.

The other Malaysian mixed doubles pair still in the running are Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai who will be playing against a relatively new Thai pair of Phuwanat Horbanluekit-Sapsiree Taerattanachai later today.

Mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were eliminated by an Indonesian pair in the first round yesterday.
