PETALING JAYA:
National mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie crashed out of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China, today, losing tamely to a much lower-ranked Indonesian pair.

The Malaysian world No 3 pair lost to the 25th-ranked Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu 15-21,11-21 in their quarter-final encounter today.

In the semi-final tomorrow, the Indonesian pair will take on the winners of the match between Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito and Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping.

Soon Huat-Shevon put up a lethargic performance in a 38-minute match after a slow start in the first game during which they trailed all the way.

The husband-wife team were first-round casualties at the BAC last year.

They clinched the bronze medal in 2023 after winning the play-off for the third and fourth placing in the Dubai edition.

The only remaining Malaysian representatives – men’s doubles pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani – will lace up in quarter-final matches later today.
