Sze Fei-Izzuddin win All England opener

They are the third Malaysian doubles pair to book a berth in tomorrow’s second round.

National men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani shrugged off a lethargic start to defeat South Korean pair Kim Gi Jung-Kim Sa Rang and move into the second round of the All England championship.

The world No 2 pair took 37 minutes to overcome the South Koreans 21-17, 21-14 tonight, becoming the third Malaysian doubles pair to enter tomorrow’s second round.

The other two are mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai and women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah.

Sze-Fei-Izzuddin will meet the winners of the match between Thai champions Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh and South Korea’s Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae.

Meanwhile, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong were sent packing in the first round by new South Korean pair Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju.

Although the Malaysian pair are world No 23, Min Hyuk-Dong Ju – who are ranked world No 61 – won 21-17, 21-12 in the first encounter between the two pairs in an international tournament.
