PETALING JAYA:
Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei advanced to the quarter-finals of the India Open today after coming from a game down to beat Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran.

In a hard-fought match that lasted 64 minutes, the Malaysian world No 3 pair beat the fast-improving world No 33 Thai pair 19-21, 21-12, 22-20 in a pulsating match.

The Malaysian pair will meet Thailand’s world No 32 Oupthong Ruttanpak-Sudjaipraparat Jhenicha in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Dechapol-Supissara, who started their partnership only last year, showed they were a force to be reckoned with at the Malaysia Open last week, beating Malaysian world No 5 pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai in the semi-finals.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who made history at the World Tour Finals by becoming the first Malaysians to enter a mixed-doubles final, showed much grit to win the third game, which went into a deuce.
