Herculean comeback for mixed doubles pair at China Masters

National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei stormed into the semi-finals of the Li Ning China Masters by defeating home pair Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui 14-21, 23-21, 21-16 in Shenzhen today.

The Malaysian pair lost the first game and were trailing 20-6 in the second game before mounting a strong comeback to win the next 14 points en route to clinching the game and forcing a rubber set.

The world No 10 Malaysian pair, who took 65 minutes to beat their world No 13 Chinese opponents, had already qualified for the season-ending World Tour Final in Hangzhou, China.

In tomorrow’s China Masters semi-finals, they will face China’s top seeds Feng Yan Zha-Huang Ding Ping who beat the Taiwanese pair of Yang Poh Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang 21-13, 21-13 today.
