Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah advanced to the second round of the 2024 Denmark Open badminton championship after defeating Indian pair Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 19-21, 21-17, 21-15 in a comeback win today.

World No 21 Treesa-Gayatri dominated the first game at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, Denmark.

However, the Malaysians, who trailed 4-7 in the second game, made a comeback to win the game and forced a rubber game.

In the deciding game, both pairs exchanged points in the early stages but as the match progressed, Pearly-Thinaah flexed their muscles to win.

Pearly-Thinaah will face South Korean pair Lee Yu Lim-Shin Seung Chan or Scottish pair Julie Macpherson-Ciara Torrance in the second round.

However, men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao was sent packing by Indonesian number one Jonatan Christie after losing in straight games, 16-21, 14-21, in their first round encounter.
