Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia got his 2024 Paris Olympics campaign off to a winning start today with a convincing win over his opponent from Sri Lanka.

The world No 7 men’s singles player easily defeated Viren Nettasinghe 21-14, 21-12.

He will next face Spain’s world No 62 Pablo Abian on Wednesday in his second Group G match.

Earlier, world No 4 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik qualified for the quarterfinals after claiming their second win in Group A.

Aaron-Wooi Yik defeated Canada’s world No 32 Nyl Yakura-Adam Dong 21-10, 21-15 in just 38 minutes.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will meet the world No 1 pair of Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China in their final Group A match on Monday.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have also qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Vincent Chiu-Jenny Gai of the US 21-15 24-22 for their second win in Group D.
