PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has disbanded the men’s senior and junior national teams, a process it undertakes every four years.

MHC president Subahan Kamal told FMT both teams will be rebuilt within the next month.

He said all coaches’ contracts have come to an end effective today.

“The new coaching chairman, Majid Manjit Abdullah, will propose new coaches for the national teams within a month,” he added.

Subahan reiterated that squad rebuild is a normal process which takes place every four years in tandem with the expiry of the coaches’ contracts.

Earlier this month, Malaysia’s dreams of playing at the upcoming Paris Olympics came to an end after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Pakistan in qualifiers held in Muscat, Oman.

Malaysian hockey’s best achievement to date took place 49 years ago when it finished fourth at the 1975 World Cup held in Kuala Lumpur.
