PETALING JAYA:
The finance ministry has appointed Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) chief operating officer, Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, as the utility giant’s next president and CEO, succeeding Baharin Din, whose tenure expires on Feb 29.

TNB said in a bourse filing today that Megat Jalaluddin’s appointment as president/CEO, and non-independent executive director was made by TNB’s “special shareholder Minister of Finance (Incorporated)” for two years with effect from March 1, 2024 until Feb 29, 2026.

The filing said Megat Jalaluddin, 58, who joined TNB in 2006, built his career in TNB where he served in various engineering and managerial positions. He left for Celcom in 2008 before returning to TNB a year later.

He was appointed as COO only in August this year. Before that, he was TNB’s chief strategy and ventures officer between October 2022 and July 2023.

Megat Jalaluddin holds a bachelor of engineering (electrical engineering) from the University of Wollongong, Australia.

“The board of directors of TNB would like to express its appreciation to Baharin for his contributions to the company,” TNB said.

TNB’s shares closed 9 sen or 0.9% higher at RM9.97, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM57.7 billion.
