PETALING JAYA:
The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has determined that imports of aluminium extrusion products from Malaysia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and several other countries have “materially injured” a US industrial sector.

As a result of the commission’s affirmative determinations, the US Department of Commerce will continue its investigations of imports of aluminum extrusions from the 14 countries, which also include Colombia, Ecuador, Italy, Mexico, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement last Friday, USITC said the products are allegedly sold in the US at less-than-fair value and subsidised by the governments of China, Indonesia and Mexico.

“There is a reasonable indication that a US industry is threatened with material injury by reason of imports of aluminum extrusions from Turkey that are allegedly subsidised by the government of Turkey,” it said.

However, the commission did not specify which industry had been threatened with material injury by the imports of the aluminum extrusions.

The statement said that USITC chairman David S Johanson and commissioners Rhonda K Schmidtlein, Jason E Kearns, and Amy A Karpel voted in the affirmative with respect to imports from the 14 countries.

The Department of Commerce will continue its investigations with its preliminary countervailing duty determinations due on or about Dec 28, 2023, and its preliminary anti-dumping duty determinations due on or about March 12, 2024, it said.
