
A former director-general of the Islamic Tourism Centre, Khani played a crucial role in promoting Malaysia as a Muslim-friendly tourist destination.
He began his career at Tourism Malaysia in 1985 and rose through the ranks before being appointed MyCEB CEO in 2020.
During his tenure at MyCEB, which plays a key role in drawing business events to the country, Khani initiated several projects, including the “Meet in Malaysia” campaign.
That campaign had an estimated economic impact of RM1.05 billion between 2020 and 2022.
Khani also played an instrumental role in increasing the ease of travel to Malaysia in the aftermath of the pandemic, via the establishment of the Business Events Special Lane at major airports.
He was also the driving force behind the Malaysia Business Events Strategic Marketing Plan 2021 – 2030.
Under the plan, business events are expected to contribute RM42.12 billion in estimated economic impact while creating around 25,833 new jobs.
