PETALING JAYA:
Ahmad Faizal Azumu has been receptive to a banner unfurled by Harimau Malaya supporters at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night which urged the youth and sports minister not to “sniff glue”.

Faizal, who had come under fire for blaming Harimau Malaya fans for being noisy and distracting the football team during their loss to Bahrain, thanked the supporters for the message.

“This is very good advice for me and for everyone. Thank you! May God bless our every good deed,” he said in a brief Twitter post, which included a picture of the banner stating, “Peja (Faizal’s nickname), don’t sniff glue”.

Yesterday, Faizal apologised for reportedly attributing Malaysia’s defeat to Bahrain to the fans being noisy, saying his comments had been misunderstood.

Malaysia lost to Bahrain 2-1 on Saturday during the qualifiers for the 2023 Asian Cup.

Last night, they made amends by qualifying for the tournament after beating Bangladesh 4-1 in their Group E qualifier – the first time the national team have qualified on merit in 42 years.
