Izzaddin steps down as Axiata Group boss

Hans Wijayasuria and Vivek Sood take over as interim joint acting group CEOs from June 1.

Izzaddin Idris will step down as Axiata president and group chief executive officer effective May 31.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Axiata Group Bhd has today announced that Izzaddin Idris will step down as president and group chief executive officer from May 31 based on a mutual cessation of the service contract between him and the telecommunications group.

Axiata chairman Shahril Ridza Ridzuan said the board has appointed Hans Wijayasuria and Vivek Sood to take over as interim joint acting group CEOs from June 1.

Wijayasuria is Axiata’s chief executive officer for its telecommunications business, and a group executive vice-president. Vivek is the group’s chief financial officer. Both will retain their current positions and portfolios.

Shahril said the board did not expect to make additional structural or senior leadership changes in the near-term.

He described Wijayasuria and Vivek as “two industry stalwarts who are very familiar with Axiata’s businesses and strongly grounded in our culture and deeply committed to the success of our ventures”.

Izzaddin took the helm on Jan 1 last year at the height of the Covid-19 crisis, after serving as deputy group CEO since January 2020. He had been a member of the Axiata board from November 2016.
