PETALING JAYA: Tan Cheng Hoe has resigned as the national football team’s coach, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced today.
Secretary-general Saifuddin Abu Bakar said Cheng Hoe had a discussion with the FAM management, adding that the resignation followed Malaysia’s failure to progress to the semifinals of the 2020 AFF Cup.
“After an open discussion involving all sides, the FAM management has decided to respect his decision and agreed to let Cheng Hoe go through a mutual agreement,” he said in a statement.
He thanked Cheng Hoe for his 14 years of service with FAM.
Among Cheng Hoe’s achievements were helping Malaysia win the 2009 SEA Games gold and 2010 AFF Cup as well as securing second place at the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup.
