ITALY 1 SPAIN 1 (ITALY WIN 4-2 ON PENALTIES)
Italy held their nerve on a thrilling night at Wembley as they were pushed to the limit by a superb Spanish team across 120 minutes of football. Federico Chiesa’s wonderful curled effort had given them the lead against the run of play on the hour mark before Alvaro Morata equalised in the 80th minute. Chelsea’s Jorginho then converted the decisive penalty with his trademark hop-and-kick technique to boost the Azzurri’s hopes of a second Euros crown.
FUN FACT: Barca wonderkid Pedri remarkably completed 100% of his passes in normal time.
TONIGHT …
ENGLAND vs DENMARK (3am)
England’s semifinal outings at major tournaments don’t usually end well. They have lost each time they have reached the last four since winning the World Cup in 1966. If football is indeed coming home, the Three Lions need to end that hoodoo against Denmark in front of an expectant Wembley crowd. Skipper Harry Kane will hope to set an example with an early goal after finding his scoring boots in the knockouts.
