What a thrilling night of football! So much drama that saw 18 goals scored across four matches – the most in a single day in the European Championship history.

Group F drama:

  • Portugal go 1-0 up to move top
  • They then concede two
  • Hungary take the lead in Munich, Portugal go bottom
  • Portugal pull level to go second
  • Germany equalise to send them third

Portugal were in every single position throughout the 90 minutes and at the end of it all, three teams got out of the ‘Group of Death’ alive!

Oh, and Cristiano Ronaldo equalled Ali Daei’s all-time record of 109 international goals with his two penalties.

In Seville, the famous tiki-taka clicked into place and a rampant La Roja romped to the Round of 16. Heck, they could even afford Alvaro Morata scuffing his lines (yet again) from the spot and still record their biggest Euros win. Over in St Petersburg, Sweden went 2-0 up, toyed with Poland’s and Robert Lewandowki’s feelings briefly before cruelly nicking the winning goal in injury time. A Swede, Polish-ed performance.

Euro 2020 now takes a two-day break before the knockout rounds kick off on Saturday.

Here’s the line-up:

Belgium vs Portugal
England vs Germany
Croatia vs Spain
Italy vs Austria
Wales vs Denmark
Holland vs Czech Republic
Sweden vs Ukraine
France vs Switzerland

So, the date with destiny is set. England versus Germany, at Wembley, at 12am, on June 30. If you can’t get up for this, football’s not for you.

FUN FACT: N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba have started 30 games together for France. They have never lost once.
