The threat of a new global health scare has given Malaysian glove makers a boost.

All key glove makers saw an uptrend in their share price as the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that monkeypox a global health emergency, according to a report in theedgemarkets.

They were the most actively traded counters with Careplus Group Bhd seeing its share price rise by 3.57% to 43.5 sen, Supermax Corp Bhd rising 2.44% to 84 sen, Top Glove Corp Bhd gaining by 1.51% to RM1.01 and Hartalega Holdings Bhd advancing 1.44% to RM2.20.

Top Glove led the volume rally with over 39 million shares traded.

Yesterday WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus proclaimed monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern. The declaration has triggered many nations into taking precautionary measures, which include increased screening of travellers for symptoms.
