Collectively, the group delivered 30,103 units last month compared with 26,480 units registered in the previous month, as it continues to fulfil its encouraging outstanding order book.

For the first half of the year, the UMW Group delivered a total of 173,254 units, 32% higher than the 131,401 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021. Sales in June 2021 were affected by the implementation of the full movement control order from June 1 to Aug 15, 2021.

To refresh its model line-up, the company has started taking in orders for the all-new Toyota Veloz. The locally assembled (CKD) vehicle will replace the Toyota Avanza in the Malaysian B-segment MPV market.

Meanwhile, Perodua’s sales of 21,164 units in June 2022 is 12% higher than the 18,901 units registered in May 2022.

To further strengthen its market leadership position, Perodua is taking orders for the all-new Perodua Alza.

UMW Holdings Bhd president and group CEO, Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said: “We are pleased with the improved sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in June 2022.”

He added that although the sales tax exemption was not extended beyond June 2022, he was grateful the government allowed bookings made by June 30 with registration by March 31, 2023, to receive the tax exemption.

This announcement also saw a massive rise in the bookings for new vehicles for both UMWT and Perodua in the last week of June 2022.

Both companies said production will be ramped-up to ensure delivery of the cars to the customers.
