SINGAPORE: Singapore and the US have pledged to boost collaboration on civil nuclear issues, a step forward for the gas-dependent city-state as it looks to develop its nuclear power technology.
The memorandum of understanding allows for engagement between experts from government, industry, national laboratories and academic institutions, the countries said in a joint statement today.
Signed between the US department of energy and Singapore’s trade and industry ministry, the pact also enhances “cooperation on energy security, promotes the development of zero-carbon baseload power in support of our climate goals,” according to the statement.
Singapore, which largely relies on gas for electricity, inked an agreement last year allowing it to learn about nuclear power technology from the US.
