PETALING JAYA:
Gamuda Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary has clinched a contract worth A$1.6 billion (RM5 billion) involving high-capacity signalling technology for Perth’s suburban rail network (METRONET high-capacity signalling project).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Gamuda said the contract was awarded by the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia to its wholly-owned unit in Australia, DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd and ALSTOM Transport Australia Pty Ltd.

“It entails design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the Urbalis Communications-based train control on Perth’s suburban rail networks.

“It also includes upgrading the existing signalling and control systems to an integrated communications-based train control system,” it said.

The 10-year contract is expected to generate revenue of about A$737 million (RM2.3 billion) for Gamuda.

“The METRONET high-capacity signalling project is expected to contribute positively to the revenue and earnings of Gamuda group for the financial year ending July 31, 2025,” it noted.

Gamuda said the project is anticipated to modernise Perth’s train signalling system.

“This is by boosting its network capacity by 40%, while enhancing energy efficiency, ensuring cybersecurity, and future-proofing the system for growth, all with minimal disruption to commuters,” it said.

As at 3.50pm, Gamuda’s share price was up by 15 sen or 1.82% at RM8.40, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM23.29 billion.
