In a joint statement, the mobile and digital services provider said the collaboration with the telecommunications infrastructure company affirms its commitment to rapid, effective and cost-efficient deployment for the second 5G network by leveraging Edotco large tower footprint and expertise.
“Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Edotco will provide U Mobile with information and access to its tower infrastructures, resource readiness and expedite site delivery to facilitate U Mobile’s 5G network rollout.
“U Mobile and Edotco will also jointly develop a streamlined process to drive efficiency.
“This process will use artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven analytics to identify the right tower locations and structures, facilitating faster and more efficient site acquisition and permissions from various state agencies,” U Mobile said.
U Mobile said this would enable faster on-air time for new 5G sites and expedite coverage expansion.
Additionally, the two parties would discuss commercial arrangements for various infrastructure requirements, including built-to-suit sites, co-locations, site upgrades and indoor coverage to establish a cost-efficient and competitive offering to enable timely rollout.
Meanwhile, U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen said the company is delighted to be able to leverage Edotco tower infrastructure footprint to accelerate rollout, further strengthening its position to deploy the second 5G network.
“We are looking forward to ensuring affordable and quality 5G services for Malaysians and to showcase the economic benefits that the technology will bring to consumer, business, and public sectors,” he said.
Edotco director of Malaysia business Gayan Koralage added that the company is honoured to be U Mobile’s strategic partner.
“This is indeed a pivotal step forward in accelerating Malaysia’s 5G future.
“We are committed to ensuring enhanced connectivity across the nation and positioning Malaysia as the leader in 5G within Asean,” he said.
