PETALING JAYA:
Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed AEON Bank (M) Bhd CEO Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as its public interest director and independent non-executive director, effective July 1.

It stated that the finance ministry is expected to appoint a public interest director pursuant to Section 10(1)(a) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.

Raja Teh Maimunah has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, covering investment, wholesale, Islamic and digital banking.

“Currently, she also serves as a board member of Retirement Fund (Incorporated) or Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan)/KWAP and as a trustee of Amanah Warisan Negara,” it said in a statement.

Before this, she held the positions of CEO at AmInvestment Bank and managing director of wholesale banking at AmBank Group.

She also served as the managing director and CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank Bhd and chief operating officer of Digital Innovation and Transaction Banking at Hong Leong Banking Group.

Notably, Raja Teh Maimunah served as the global head of Islamic markets at Bursa between 2009 and 2011, where she led the establishment of Bursa Suq Al-Sila’, the world’s first end-to-end shariah-compliant commodity trading platform.

Meanwhile, Bursa chairman Abdul Wahid Omar said her experience in Islamic finance and digital banking would contribute immensely to their innovation and growth pursuits as a multi-asset exchange to build a robust, vibrant, and inclusive Malaysian capital market.
