Ericsson’s head for Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh David Hagerbro said together with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), both parties will work closely in expanding the 5G network coverage to ensure a seamless customer experience with the latest technology available.
“Our commitment is to ensure that Malaysia has the latest and best technology that we see today.
“We are going to continue to be in the lead when it comes to the latest technology for the 5G network. The focus right now is how we can use this technology to drive the digitalisation of enterprises,” he told Bernama.
In February 2024, Ericsson inked a partnership with DNB to collaborate on 5G Advanced to ensure that the latter’s 5G network remained one of the top-performing networks in the world.
Hagerbro also assured that Ericsson’s 5G technology has all the latest capabilities according to the international standard — the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard.
“We are committed to working with DNB and Malaysia to ensure that the new releases of 3GPP standard for 5G Advance are deployed in Malaysia.
“One of the advantages that you will see in 5G Advanced is the enablement of artificial intelligence (AI) and how you manage, operate as well as deliver the services of the network to the end users and enterprise customers,” he added.
Malaysia has surpassed the 80% 5G network coverage of populated areas (CoPA) target as at the end of December 2023, with the latest reported number of the network coverage at 80.2%.
5G Advance to benefit enterprises
Hagerbro said Malaysia as a nation has been taking the lead in building its digital infrastructure and the introduction of 5G Advanced could provide an opportunity for enterprises to speed up their journey in digitalisation.
“Leveraging this digital infrastructure to drive digitalisation will not only help local companies to become more competitive but will also attract foreign investments into Malaysia,” he said.
Hagerbro noted that it is important for the whole ecosystem to work together to enjoy the benefit of better connectivity such as the likes of cloud services, to enable enterprises to adopt digitalisation and evolve.
