Veteran financial advisor gets a seat on the SC board

A financial advisor for the Omani government has joined the Securities Commission (SC) as a member of the board of directors.

Kemal Rizadi Arbi will serve on the SC board, which is responsible for overall governance and has oversight of its regulatory and developmental mandates, for two years from Jan 15.

SC chairman Awang Adek said in a statement that the appointment of Kemal, who has served in the Middle East as well as Malaysia, will provide guidance on oversight to the regulator in protecting the interests of investors as well as to maintain order and transparency in the market.

Kemal has more than three decades of global experience in policy making, the Islamic capital market, financial and investment sectors as well as fintech.

He now serves as advisor with the government of Oman. Kemal has also been attached to the executive president and vice-president’s office at the Capital Market Authority of the Sultanate of Oman since 2013.

He has also been involved in efforts to develop the Malaysia and Asean+3 capital markets together with China, Japan and South Korea.

He once served in senior management roles in asset management and investment banking in Malaysia.
