
The group said in a statement today the milestone signifies its focus to future-proofing its infrastructure and preparing its networks for the demands of next-generation technology.
“This achievement reflects its strong commitment in supporting the government’s objective of achieving 80% 5G coverage in populated areas nationwide by year-end, through Digital Nasional Bhd,” the statement read.
“It also enhances the digital infrastructure, providing a solid foundation for businesses, communities, and individuals to thrive in a digitally connected world,” it added.
Moving forward, the group’s CEO Adlan Tajudin said that the achievement showcases its dedication to shape the future of telecommunications through meaningful collaborations and impactful solutions.
“Enabling 500 of our existing towers with 5G connectivity signifies Edotco’s commitment to connectivity, economic growth, and innovation, as well as our commitment to the nation’s digital transformation journey.”
Founded in 2012, Edotco provides end-to-end integrated solutions in the tower services sector. It operates more than 58,000 towers across nine Asian nations including Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan and Myanmar.
Since 2021, the group has played a crucial role in the expansion of 5G infrastructure in Malaysia, having constructed 1,695 sites nationwide – the largest number of 5G sites in the country.
Axiata is the controlling shareholder of Edotco, while other minority shareholders include sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Innovation Network Corp of Japan and the Employees Provident Fund.
At market close, Axiata’s share price was down by 2 sen (0.84%) at RM2.36, giving it a market capitalisation of RM21.66 billion.
