PETALING JAYA:
Highway concessionaire Prolintas is helping to generate opportunities for local communities in its search for talent.

The company’s human capital division has launched various initiatives that will enhance local skills in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Prolintas corporate communications chief Badri Ibrahim said the move is in line with the company’s vision to advance highway engineering to meet the demands of the future.

“Local engineers and builders have contributed massively to the success of both our recent projects, namely the Damansara-Shah Alam Expressway (DASH) and the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE),” he said at the Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) 2023 event in Penang today.

“This shows us that we should place greater emphasis on discovering new local talent,” he added.

Badri said one of the initiatives that Prolintas has launched is the Protégé Programme and On-Job Training for which there are 201 participants.

“This reflects the company’s strong commitment to empowering talents in STEM. We have already conducted 97 such programmes,” he said.

He said about 60% of the participants already have a background in STEM subjects, and 20% of them are now part of the Prolintas team.

“We are committed to building a workforce with STEM skills. Prolintas currently has about 750 employees in various fields,” he added.

On another matter, Badri said the public response to the DASH and SUKE expressways has been “excellent”.

He said commuters who use the expressways have been able to avoid traffic congestion, enabling them to reduce their travel time from an hour to just 30 minutes or 40 minutes.

“We’ve also introduced new technologies and innovations that prioritise safety. Every highway is equipped with CCTV, emergency phones, a vehicle and accident detection system (VIDS), and highway patrols ensuring 24/7 surveillance,” he said.

The nine-day MSAM 2023, which is held at Setia Fontaines in Bertam, Penang, will end on Oct 8.

Visitors to the Prolintas booth will have the opportunity to learn about the distinctive features of highway engineering.

They can also engage in various activities such as simulated car rides, arcade racing games and highway structure building challenges.
