The group attributed the impressive sales performance to continuous contributions from UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua, amidst encouraging outstanding bookings.
“We are pleased with the strong sales performance registered by both UMWT and Perodua in July 2023, as the demand remains healthy.
“Year-to-date (YTD), both companies have continued to register higher year-on-year (y-o-y) sales,” said UMW Holdings Bhd president and group CEO Fuaad Kenali.
In July, UMWT’s sales grew by 26% y-o-y to 8,349 units, with the Toyota Vios, Hilux and Corolla Cross being the top-selling models.
This brought its YTD sales to 57,008 units, an 8% y-o-y growth compared to 52,548 units delivered in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Perodua’s sales surged 55% y-o-y to 28,431 units, bringing its YTD sales to 173,121 units – 19% higher than the 145,689 units delivered in the same period in 2022.
Its remarkable sales performance was mainly attributed to the increase in production, supported by the improving supply chain.
Moving forward, Fuaad said the group will continue to introduce competitive and exciting new models to meet its customers’ requirements.
“We would like to extend our appreciation to our customers for their continuous support of our products and services,” he said.
At market close today, UMW Holdings Bhd’s share price was down by eight sen or 1.74% at RM4.53, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM5.29 billion.
