UMW Group car sales up 17.2% in March

The group has sold 41,315 Toyota and Perodua units in March this year, compared with 35,246 units a year ago.

UMW Group’s automotive sales increased by 17.2% in March this year with the delivery of 41,315 units compared with 35,246 units in March 2022.

The group said both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company Perodua have continued to fulfil its encouraging outstanding bookings.

It said UMWT registered 9,136 units in March, 7.6% higher than the 8,487 units delivered in March 2022.

For the first quarter of 2023, UMWT registered 25,219 units, its highest-ever first quarter sales, which is a 12.3% growth compared with the 22,447 units registered in the corresponding period of 2022.

“UMWT expects the demand and sales to be sustained throughout the year, supported by the introduction of new and facelift models.

“On March 20, UMWT launched the all-new Toyota Vios, which boasts improved performance, quicker acceleration, and new technology, making it an even more compelling choice for customers looking for a reliable, efficient, and affordable car,” it said in a statement.

UMW Group said Perodua achieved its highest-ever monthly sales with the delivery of 32,179 units, 20.3% more than the 26,759 units in March 2022.

Perodua also achieved its highest monthly production since inception with 33,666 units in March.

For the first quarter of 2023, Perodua registered 78,564 units, 27.5% higher than the 61,624 units delivered in the same period of 2022.

Accordingly, Perodua has achieved 25% of its sales target for 2023 of 314,000 units.

“Moving forward, Perodua is expected to continue to deliver its cars to fulfil the encouraging outstanding bookings which continue to remain healthy,” it said.

President and group CEO Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said the group will continue to introduce competitive and exciting new models to meet customers’ requirements.

“Based on the encouraging sales and strong demand for the newly launched models, we are cautiously optimistic that the automotive industry will continue to perform well in 2023,” he said.
