The joint venture marks Sime Darby Motors’ first immediate presence in the republic, via two dealerships representing BMW and Mini in Jakarta and Medan.
The conglomerate plans to later expand its automotive presence into other provinces in Java and Sumatera in line with BMW Group’s aspiration to expand their Indonesia business.
Sime Darby Group CEO Jeffri Salim Davidson expressed his delight with the partnership, which is aligned with the company’s strategy to grow its automotive business in Asia Pacific.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Galeon Group to realise our expansion plans. Galeon, having been in the automotive business since 1989, has the critical expertise and understanding of the local automotive scene,” he said.
He also noted that Indonesia presents a high-potential automotive market due to its rapidly expanding middle and upper-class consumer base.
Meanwhile, Galeon Group principal Leonel Gozali said the collaboration will accelerate growth via brand expansion to include the Mini brand and expand its territory outside of current locations.
“With Sime Darby’s strong automotive and BMW experience, solid back-end systems, and strong financial capacity to support growth, we are confident that this partnership would bring success,” said Leonel.
Galeon Group operates BMW and Mini dealerships in Indonesia, and is also involved in the property and entertainment businesses.
