The integrated mixed development and logistics hub is targeted to attract foreign direct investment of up to US$4 billion (RM17.61 billion), and create 20,000 jobs, said MCKIP in a statement today.
The ambitious project will provide critical infrastructure that will bolster Malaysia’s logistics and supply-chain resilience and connectivity, it added.
In July 2022, IJM Corporation Bhd sealed a strategic partnership with China Harbour Engineering Company to develop MCKILP in MCKIP 3, an integrated mixed development and logistics hub on a 640-acre site in MCKIP.
MCKIP today celebrated its 10-year anniversary, which also witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of MCKILP.
MCKIP chairman and IJM Corporation Bhd CEO Lee Chun Fai said the commemoration of the 1,200-acre industrial park is not only a testament to the successful cooperation between both countries but also creates a pathway for future investments and economic development in the region.
“We are proud to have played a part in driving this initiative forward, and we look forward to continuing to do so in the years to come,” he added.
The commemoration ceremony took place in both MCKIP and nearby Kuantan Port, and included several events such as the launching of the Kuantan New International Land-Sea Trade Channel, which was officiated by transport minister Loke Siew Fook together with Liu Ning, secretary of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang autonomous regional committee.
“The series of events, including the site visits, launching of key land-sea corridor projects and groundbreaking of three major projects in MCKIP underscore the progress that the industrial park has made over the years,” said Lee.
MCKIP, launched in 2013, is a joint venture between IJM and a Chinese consortium led by Guanxi Beibu, a state-owned logistics company.
By 2027, MCKIP and Kuantan Port will be integrated with the East Coast Rail Link, a highly-anticipated land-bridge which will connect the east coast to the west coast of Malaysia, further enhancing the logistics network in the country.
