PETALING JAYA:
Those caught in the current floods have been given a reprieve by their banks.

They will be allowed to defer repayments on their loans. Over and above that, all fees and charges for the replacement of banking documents and bank cards lost in the floods will be waived.

In a statement issued to the media today, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) said the respite will be tailored to meet individual needs by the respective banks.

It advised victims of the floods to reach out to their respective banks for information on how to apply for the assistance.

The banks will also make the announcement through the various channels at their disposal, ABM said.

It said various measures have been taken to ensure that access to basic banking services will still be available to customers affected by the floods.

It added that information on the location of alternative branches where banking transactions can be performed will be made known to affected customers.
