Berjaya Corp among top 5 active counters after potential acquisition news

Berjaya Corporation Bhd (Berjaya Corp) emerged as one of the top active counters on Bursa Malaysia today, following news of the group’s potential acquisition of a majority stake in a financial services company.

The said firm is a licensed entity governed by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) under the Financial Services Act 2013 (FSA).

According to a news report, Berjaya Corp founder and major shareholder Vincent Tan Chee Yioun intends to pare his stake in the corporation to 19.6% from 26% in order to comply with Section 92 of the FSA.

The news report also stated that Tan has been carrying out several share disposals to reduce his stake in Berjaya Corp.

At 11.09am, the counter was flat at 29.5 sen after opening higher at 31 sen, with about 41.77 million shares traded.
