BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd MD Eagle Zhao says this is a “remarkable achievement” in such a short span of time.

“BYD wants to drive the EV wave in Malaysia and propel the nation towards low carbon mobility,” he added.

Sime Darby Motors Malaysia retail and distribution managing director Jeffrey Gan said this response is highly encouraging. “It shows Malaysians are ready for the future of mobility and are confident of BYD,” he said.

“With our first BYD showroom now at TREC KL, and with additional three more expected to be operational by mid-2023 in Ara Damansara, Penang, and Johor, this will enhance BYD’s reach,” he said.

The EV is the first of many BYD models to be introduced here, and is solely distributed by Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd. Their cars are expected to be in 20 showrooms across the country by end-2023, and double that number by 2024.

The BYD ATTO 3 is a high-performance EV that has a battery range capable of travelling up to 480km on a single charge. It is available in two variants, priced from RM149,800 for the standard range and RM167,800 for the extended range.

BYD was founded in 1995 as a rechargeable battery maker, and now boasts a diverse business scope covering automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics, with over 30 industrial parks in China, the US, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India.
