PETALING JAYA:
After a two-year hiatus, AirAsia X (AAX) recorded an 80% load factor on its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah today.

AAX CEO Benjamin Ismail is pleased with AAX’s return to Jeddah, the gateway to the holy cities of Madinah and Mecca.

“This route has always been our success story in the past due to the substantial traffic between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, as well as the consistently high demand for umrah services not only from Malaysia but also Indonesia,” he said, adding this makes Kuala Lumpur an important umrah hub for the region.

This comeback also marks a new partnership with IKHLAS (Capital A’s Muslim-friendly travel and lifestyle platform) to offer affordable “Umrah with IKHLAS’ packages.

Benjamin said this partnership would provide flexibility and do-it-yourself (DIY) travel options for guests. “AAX can leverage on this opportunity to expand our frequency and network in the future.”

IKHLAS CEO Ikhlas Kamarudin said their goal is to develop a well-rounded travel and lifestyle product at low-cost for guests to these cities through innovative systems and one-stop platforms.

“We have waited for two years for the reopening of Saudi Arabia’s travel sectors to make it more convenient for the guests” he added.

AAX will have six weekly flights to Jeddah.
