Langkawi International Airport (LGK) received the “Highly Commended” recognition in the “Under 4 million passengers” category at the prestigious Routes Asia 2019 Marketing Awards in Cebu, the Philippines, recently.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said the awards recognised outstanding marketing programmes which supported the launch of new air routes or the development of existing services in route development and the aviation industry.

“LGK has been actively attracting new airlines and boosting inbound tourism to the island over the years,” he said in a statement today.

Raja Azmi said the airport had completed its expansion in September last year, which increased capacity from 1.5 million passengers annually to 4.0 million.

In 2018, LGK saw a 29.9% growth in international passenger movements to 368,995 from 283,953 in the preceding year.

Raja Azmi said MAHB would continue to expand the overall connectivity at LGK by seeking new airline routes and increased flight frequencies from key destinations in Europe, Central Asia and China.
